About
The place UK businesses check before they buy compliance.
What the law says. What the regulator says. What I think it means. And what you can do next.
Compliance Buyer is a magazine. It is written for the person who pays the bill. That person is usually running a café or a shop or a workshop. They did not go into business to learn fire law. They need to know what applies to them and what it should cost. They need to know what they can do themselves. And they need to know what they are about to be sold that they do not need.
Everyone else with a public voice in this market sells compliance. The advice they give is honest. It also leans one way. This magazine sits on the other side of the table.
The editor
I am David Smith. I have spent nineteen years in the compliance trade and I have sat in every seat it has. I have bought it as the person responsible for a building. I have sold it. I have run the operations that deliver it. I have owned businesses that had to comply. That is the whole qualification for this job. I know what a quote looks like from both ends.
A conflict of interest, stated plainly
I also founded RiskSorted. It is a separate business that delivers compliance services to small businesses. You should know that before you read anything here about suppliers. The magazine does not prefer it. The assistant does not refer to it. If it is ever reviewed here, someone else will write the review. The full rules are on the standards page.
What you get, for nothing
Every guide with its sources linked and dated. A plan for your kind of business with typical costs. Tools that give you a number rather than a sales call. An assistant that answers your question without asking for your email first. A fortnightly letter with one rule explained and one thing you can use. Nobody pays to appear here. Nobody pays to be reviewed. Nobody pays to be recommended.
How to hold us to it
If a fact is wrong, tell us and we will correct it on the page with the date. If you think an opinion is wrong, tell us that too. Write to editor@compliancebuyer.com.
The Buyer’s Brief
One rule clarified. One buyer question answered. One industry issue. One free tool. Every fortnight.
